How To Safely Transport Your Pet In and Out of the UAE

A lot of people go on holiday or back home this time of the year, and some might want to take their four-legged loved ones with them! Each country has different requirements and regulations when it comes to travelling with your fury friends, but generally the airline and the specific breed of your pet will determine how to safely transport it. But we have some tips on how you can get started.

Travelling Cat

The Crate

The first thing to ensure is that our furry friends have a correctly sized travel crate, it should provide ventilation and enough room for them to be comfortable. There is a specific formula to work this out, which most vets will be able to advise you on. The German Veterinary Clinic in Khalifa City A even has a Transport Team who can provide a bespoke service for your pets, whether you require documents only or a full door to door service.

Accessories

To ensure that your pet will be as comfortable as possible, you will also need to purchase the appropriate mats, blankets, absorbent pads, and water bowls, as well as an array of species-specific products to create a home in the sky for your pet!

Documentation

Depending on the species of your pet and where they are travelling to, it is very likely that they will need specific vaccinations, blood tests, and microchipping (if they aren’t already). These procedures, combined with preparing the correct documentation, naturally takes time, and so it is advisable to begin the process as soon as possible. For some destinations, the process must be started no more than seven months prior to your anticipated travel date, so again it is important to check before arranging travel.

The German Veterinary Clinic has, over the last 10 years, successfully relocated thousands of pets to and from all corners of the globe. If you have any queries about transporting your pet, you can get in touch with Dr Katrin by emailing drkatrin@germanvet. ae or visit www.germanvet.ae
