This week, we’re featuring Children’s House Montessori (CHM), a nursery in Khalifa City, Abu Dhabi.
Children’s House Montessori (CHM) is situated in the heart of Khalifa City, Abu Dhabi. This nursery has a strong Montessori foundation and follows the Montessori philosophy. They accept children from 45 days to 4 years of age into their care.
Their Infant Community is the home for children aged 16 months to 2.4 years. Classer are led by qualified early years teachers from the UK with many years of experience within this particular field and a passion for working with toddlers.
CHM realises and recognises that toddlerhood is a time in a child’s life when they have a strong sense of exploring their environment while striving to become independent. Providing toddlers an environment that nurtures and enables them to grow into curious and responsible human beings is therefore of utmost importance.
In their Infant Community, children’s individual personal, social and emotional developmental needs are being met through teacher’s careful observations. Children in this area are participating daily in physical, practical life and sensory play activities as well as art and craft activities and song and story time. A lot of fun is being had whilst being busy learning and developing.
Montessori is an approach to education that focuses on the immense capacity of children to absorb information when given the freedom and independence to learn at their own pace. Children choose, try and do activities for themselves in a prepared environment with specially developed materials. The teacher’s close observation and guidance leads to an enormously powerful, confidence-building approach to learning. Children explore the environment in a safe, secure and interactive way with well-resourced materials and resources which link both to the Montessori philosophy and to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.
Within the Infant Community classrooms, materials and equipment are easily accessible for children and the furniture and activities are child sized. Children have the freedom to move within the prepared environment, allowing them to make their own choices and decisions. The environment is ordered and children learn from real life experiences and the natural environment. In addition, children learn to take ownership for personal belongings and to show respect towards their environment, adults and peers.
