Summer In The City

If you’re around this summer, there’s no shortage of fun things to do! Yalla fills you in on city-wide initiatives designed to keep your summer days and nights white hot.

Shopping Abu Dhabi

Every year, the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) introduces Summer #InAbuDhabi initiatives designed to offer residents and visitors the opportunity to indulge in sensational shopping, dining, and entertainment experiences, and this summer is no exception. So, if you are desperately looking for something to do, read on!

If you love to shop until you drop, the highly anticipated Retail Abu Dhabi (RAD) Rewards Summer edition, runs from 27 June to 3 August. At 21 participating malls across Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, shoppers can expect AED 5 million dirhams’ worth of sensational offers and prize giveaways. The Summer #inAbuDhabi kicks off on 27 June and will feature incredible deals and experiences across theme parks, museums, hotels, and restaurants, giving families, friends and visitors endless options to escape the summer heat.

Yas Island is always the place to be any time of year but especially this summer, and, thanks to Summer #InAbuDhabi, there are great deals to be found all over the entertainment hub. Families can make the most of fun in the sun by letting their kids run free, for free. By opting to play and stay on Yas Island, families can open up a world of summer thrills with special hotel rates and deals, as well as enjoying the ‘Kids Go Free’ special with access to the island’s award-winning theme parks, including Yas Waterworld, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, and Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi.

Louvre Abu Dhabi is also participating, offering the perfect place to chill out and take in a world of culture and art in the capital. Admission gives access to the Louvre’s Museum Galleries, Exhibitions, Children’s Museum and public spaces underneath the extraordinary 180 meter-diameter dome. The best part is that kids under 13 go free. Visit on the last Friday and Saturday of every month for free family themed activities from 2 – 6pm, join a drop-in creative workshop, discover a drawing session, or take part in a mini-interactive tour. If that isn’t enough, you can take in some history by listening to magnificent tales by storytellers roaming the museum’s galleries and exhibitions.

If you need a place to stay, Summer #inAbuDhabi also features hotel promotions with special deals for spa, F&B, rooms and kids offers. Numerous luxury and family-friendly hotels across the emirate will be offering deals and generous discounts. Anantara Desert Islands Hotel Resort & Spa on the iconic Sir Bani Yas Island is offering a ‘children stay free’ deal to ensure the whole family makes the most of the sea views, wild adventures and everlasting memories the island promises.

If you are perpetually hungry, Summer #inAbuDhabi also has foodies covered too with a range of hotel meal deals to satisfy every craving. If shopping is your idea of fun, the Intercontinental Abu Dhabi has just what you need. By choosing to stay at any of the Intercontinental Hotel Group’s luxurious Abu Dhabi properties, guests will receive an AED 200 voucher, which can be redeemed at Yas Mall, for each night booked.

To top off all the fun, the Yas Gaming Festival is headlined to return to Yas Mall’s Town Square in 2019, running from 22 August to 1 September. Turning into a gamer’s paradise, the Mall’s Town Square will play host to a range of interactive experiences, including cosplay, fun multi-player tournaments, retro arcades, e-sports, and virtual reality activations. The Festival will celebrate gaming culture as well as educating parents about kid-friendly games and educational gaming, as well as offering tips for controlling playtime for their young ones.
