Alef Education, has signed today an agreement with Higher Colleges of Technology and Capital Health to announce the launch of the ‘Alef Summer Program’, to be held in July and August this year. The program is open for all students in the UAE from Grades 7 to 12, and will be made free to accepted students. The program will focus on Healthcare Foundation Courses for students and is created in collaboration with an Academic Partner, Higher Colleges of Technology, and an Industry Partner, Capital Health.

This summer program will be held from the 5th of July to the 13th of August 2020 and will be conducted live online via the Alef Platform with professors from Higher Colleges of Technology. Selected students will be given practical training at two of Capital Health’s hospitals, Specialized Rehabilitation Hospital & Health Shield Medical Center, where theory will be put into practice for real life job shadowing.

Aishah Al Yammahi, Board Advisor at Alef Education said: “The world started to realize the importance of the health sector and the necessity to build fundamental skills in health care for a safer society, particularly through living the pandemic of Covid-19. It is for this purpose that we launch this initiative to represent a quantum leap for many students by enhancing their skills in health care and motivating them approach the sector of health sciences in a practical way. Alef Education recognizes the dire need for more students to major in health care and nursing and as part of our responsibility towards the United Arab Emirates and the students of this country that has been at the forefront of development in all areas, we worked together with High Colleges of Technology and Capital Health Hospitals to launch this Summer Program and help students use their free time during the summer to benefit from this knowledge and raise their awareness of the value of health care for themselves, their families and society. At the same time, this program will raise the interest amongst students to pursue the health care sector and practice nursing”.

Geoffrey Alphonso, CEO of Alef Education, commenting on the signing said: “Alef Education’s aspirations were always to further develop students and peak their interest and guide them into the appropriate post-secondary institutions. Embedding real-world context and practical hands-on experience in the learning process for our students is what will resonate the most with our future generations. Therefore we are very proud of our first partnership of this kind, where Alef Education, HCT and Capital Health will launch an introduction to healthcare program powered by the Alef Platform. We feel that this program will drive a deep understanding of the medical profession with practical hands-on experience that will bring their learning experience to life. With the current pandemic that is wreaking havoc on societies across the world including its drain on the health care systems of many nations, we feel that this is also an important time to have our students consider the field of medicine and health care in general”.

Crises test the grit, determination and strength of countries, and we in the United Arab Emirates always aspire to overcome these challenges.

The vision behind this program is to increase the next generation’s participation in the Nursing profession, which is one of the most important components of the health services of the UAE. Given the current pandemic, the importance of this noble profession has become even greater.

The two main objectives are firstly, to introduce nursing as an attractive profession to high school students, and secondly, to equip high school students with the practical skills required to work at hospitals and clinics.

Students who successfully pass this course will receive a completion certificate by Alef Education, together with the Higher Colleges of Technology and Capital Health. Awards and prizes will be given to distinguished students.
