A report on the costliest cities in the world revealed Dubai as one of the top cities

According to Mercer’s Cost of Living 2023 report, Dubai and Abu Dhabi are in the top 50

It’s officially confirmed. Dubai is definitely the most expensive emirate to live in the UAE.

The recently released Mercer’s Cost of Living 2023 report revealed Dubai and Abu Dhabi to be among the most expensive cities in the Middle East.

The cost of living has not just increased in the UAE but across the region and globe, owing to a myriad of reasons from geopolitical tensions to the effects of the post-pandemic period.

Dubai came in quite high in the top 20, ranking at number 18, a jump up by 13 spots.

The annual study revealed that prices of butter, cooking oil, sugar and other essential items basket rose by 23.5 per cent, 6.9 per cent, 3.8 per cent and 15.4 per cent, respectively, in Dubai.

Tel Aviv remains the most expensive city in the Middle East.

The study ranked 227 cities from across five continents, measuring the comparative cost of more than 200 items in each location, including housing, transportation, food, clothing, household goods and entertainment.

However, the rankings of almost all the cities in the Gulf region have jumped due to the rise in the cost of living. One can only hope things slow down a bit this year!
