Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships welcomes back the former world number one after five years hiatus

Former World No.1 and four-time major champion, Naomi Osaka, is set to make a comeback at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships after a hiatus of five years.

Following a 15-month break for personal reasons, which included the birth of her first child, Osaka marked her return at the Brisbane International and the Australian Open last month.

The Japanese sensation has since participated in the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open and Qatar Open, reaching the round of 16.

Osaka, currently ranked 48th in the world, will join a star-studded lineup, including World No.1 Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, and Coco Gauff at the WTA Tour event, now awarded permanent WTA 1000 status.

The tournament’s Executive Vice Chairman and CEO, Colm McLoughlin, expressed pleasure at Osaka’s participation, emphasizing the strength of the women’s field this year.

The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, features 17 of the world’s top 20 players.

Salah Tahlak, Joint COO of Dubai Duty Free and Tournament Director, highlighted the significance of having Osaka’s “pedigree and stature” in the tournament.

Osaka’s return adds an extra layer of excitement to the 24th edition of this prestigious championship, promising thrilling competition among the world’s elite tennis players.

Fans can secure their tickets for both the women’s WTA tournament and the men’s ATP event on the official website.
