Bombay Borough is a window to flavours well beyond the namesake city, with an inventive flair
Nestled in the fine dining space at DIFC, Bombay Borough’s gorgeous interiors are a picturesque tribute to the British-era bungalows of India with a modern French twist.
Think high ceilings, ornate French windows, gorgeous chandeliers, vivid paintings and a splash of vibrant teal. Greeted with true desi hospitality, we chose to sit indoors against views of the striking bar and chatter reminiscent of the streets of India.
Celebrating four years of taking the city on an armchair culinary journey through India, Bombay Borough has gone the distance to curate a special menu highlighting all four and extremely diverse corners of the country.
The menu itself is as enticing as the delicious offerings it features. A collection of vintage-inspired postcards, each dish is accompanied by a narrative unique to the region to a create a truly immersive experience.
Featuring seven progressive plates, we were most excited by the distinctive Bun Parotta Benedict batting for the South Indian region of Kerala. A contemporary spin on the classic Eggs Benedict, it looks exactly the part and delivers all the punchy native flavours you might expect featuring curry leaves, a caramelised onion fritter, and more sat atop Kerala parottas (flakey-bread). The egg poached to perfection makes for the perfect complementary sauce alongside the chilli-tamarind mayonnaise, a truly unique bite.

Another favourite off their specials’ menu is easily the Rezala Chicken Pot Pie, which is essentially a local Kolkata dish infused with panchphoran or the Indian five-spice blend. Served tableside in the quintessential creative pot pie-style, it’s textbook creamy, flavourful and filling to say the least.
The service at Bombay Borough is what restaurant dreams are made of, quick, efficient and warm to the T. The servers anticipated our needs and appeared almost out of thin air with just what we needed, also allowing us enough time between meals and drinks to enjoy our experience thoroughly.
We were also handed a tasting three-course menu to dine from, which in hindsight proved to be our undoing in terms of overtly generous portions. While the dishes catered well beyond the standard flavour bombs associated with Indian cooking, it was the Regional Mezze Board that truly stood out. A desi interpretation of the traditional Arabic mezze board, it’s a fun (and colourful!) conversation starter as you mix and match the various crackers, bagels and more with different condiments.
While the Anglo-Indian Perdu is a Bombay Borough specialty, the Malai Jamun plated tableside with a generous serving of theatrics and ‘gold dust’ was definitely the crowd pleaser on our visit. Quite literally too, with every table inspiring each other into ordering the same in the most decadent domino effect.
Suffice it to say, the easy-going yet gourmet vibes at Bombay Borough hit home with just the right progressive touch. Definitely worth a visit!
