Seven days of mourning have been announced in the UAE following the passing of HH Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, the Abu Dhabi Ruler’s Representative in Al Ain Region.

President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has expressed his deep condolences on the passing of his uncle. Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, also extended sympathies, highlighting Sheikh Tahnoun’s years of dedication.

Seven days of mourning have officially began and flags will now be flown at half-mast from today as a mark of respect.

H. H. Sheikh Tahnoun, who was born in 1942, was a familiar presence alongside the UAE President at national events and leaves behind a legacy of service and contribution to the nation.

He held some very prestigious positions within the UAE and was formerly chairman of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and deputy chairman of the Executive Council of Abu Dhabi.

In honour of his widespread contributions to the UAE, the Dubai-Al Ain road was renamed after him in 2018.

Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the UAE will now witness a grieving period for the coming days.
