Dubai’s next step in public transport is here

Trackless Trams Coming To Dubai Very Soon

Trackless trams set to glide into the city into the future

Dubai is known for its ambitious strides in transportation, and the latest development from Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) promises to be a game-changer.

Get ready for trackless trams, an eco-friendly addition set to appear across eight key locations in Dubai.

Unlike traditional trams, these advanced, self-driving vehicles rely on virtual tracks guided by cameras along painted lines.

Imagine gliding smoothly through dedicated lanes, free from conventional tracks and rails, on a futuristic journey powered entirely by electricity.

Each tram can carry up to 300 passengers in its three connected carriages, reaching a top speed of 70 km/h.

While operating, speeds typically range between 25 to 60 km/h, with a single charge allowing for an impressive 100 km of travel.

These trams will mark a leap forward in cost-efficient, fast-construction public transport and underscore Dubai’s commitment to sustainable urban solutions.

As the Dubai Tram gears up to celebrate its 10th anniversary on 11 November, its achievements highlight Dubai’s ongoing dedication to enhancing mobility.

Since launching, the tram network has completed 950,000 journeys, carried 60 million passengers, and increased ridership by 850 per cent, all while maintaining a stellar punctuality rate of 99.9 per cent.

During a recent visit to the RTA headquarters, His Highness reviewed Dubai’s ambitious urban mobility projects, including the AED16 billion 2024-2027 Main Roads Development Plan.

With 22 new projects in the pipeline, this effort will further expand Dubai’s road networks, benefiting the city’s six million residents and aligning with Dubai’s vision for comprehensive development.

Fun fact: Dubai now has 3.5 million vehicles on the roads during peak hours, with vehicle registrations climbing by 10% over the past two years – a jump well above the global average.

The city’s commitment to smart transport solutions, like these trackless trams, positions it as a pioneer in global urban mobility, embracing innovation to keep the city moving in style.
