Dubai RTA road upgrades cut travel time by 40 per cent

Enhancements between sheikh zayed and al khail road

Dubai’s infrastructure enhancements ease congestion and improve traffic flow across major city routes

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed a major series of infrastructure upgrades to improve traffic flow between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road via Al Meydan Street.

The enhancements are part of an ongoing strategy to optimise key traffic corridors across the city.

One of the key upgrades includes the expansion of Exit No. D69 from Sheikh Zayed Road to Al Meydan Street.

The exit was widened from one to two lanes, effectively doubling its vehicle handling capacity from 1,500 to 3,000 vehicles per hour. As a result, peak-hour travel times have been reduced by up to 40 per cent, with queuing times cut in half.

Another major improvement focused on the bridge over First Al Khail Road, which now features four lanes in both directions; up from three.

This increase has boosted capacity from 4,500 to 6,000 vehicles per hour and significantly reduced crossing times during rush hours, dropping the average from seven minutes to just four.

Additional enhancements were made to the connecting ramps linking the surface road with the First Al Khail Road bridge.

These ramps were expanded from one lane to two, easing congestion and improving access for vehicles heading toward Al Khail Road and Al Meydan Street, especially during midday and evening traffic peaks.

Together, these upgrades have streamlined vehicle movement between some of Dubai’s busiest arteries, easing pressure on surrounding roads and supporting smoother, faster commutes across the network.
