UAE expats to get 180-day grace period after redundancy

Other changes include the introduction of a green visa.

Expats who have been made redundant in the UAE will soon be able to stay up to six months in the country.

Currently, employees who have become unemployed have up to 30 days to leave or change their status in the country.

It is hoped the change in legislation will help the UAE retain talent within the country as well as provide employees with ample time to obtain a new job.

The news comes as the leadership announced new reforms as part of the ‘Projects of the 50’.

Other major changes include a new green visa to allow parents to sponsor their children until they are 25, sponsorship of parents under the visa of direct family members and extension of business permits from three months to six months.
