Abu Dhabi is ready to host the sporting world

FINA World Swimming Championships begin today.

Abu Dhabi is ready to host the world, that is the message from his His Excellency Sultan Al- Samahi, President of The UAE Swimming Federation.

Speaking at the launch of the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) on Yas Bay Waterfront, H.E. Sultan Al-Samahi said that capital’s infrastructure and experience in hosting major events means it is prepared to host any major sporting occasion.

H.E. Sultan Al-Samahi said; “The UAE Government, Abu Dhabi and Dubai as big cities, they have lots of experience for some 25 years [in hosting major sporting events].

“We are ready to host everything in the world with great and fantastic facilities. We have a great infrastructure and great experience in doing this.

“It’s a great honour for us, hosting the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) in Abu Dhabi in the same year as celebrating our nation’s of 50th anniversary.

“Also Abu Dhabi as the capital of our nation, is always hosting different events of the world and sport and with a great atmosphere and excellent events management in such a nice arena, this is really an amazing area for the athletes to be competing in for the week ahead.”

Attracting more than 1,000 aqua athletes, this is the first time the FINA World Swimming Championships is being held in the region and H.E. Sultan Al-Samahi believes the six-day competition will leave a lasting legacy in inspiring people to get involved with swimming and water events.

H.E. Sultan Al-Samahi said; “We have more than 220 nationalities living with us in the UAE. We, the UAE Swimming Federation believe this sport is for everyone to participate in.

“With Abu Dhabi Sports Council who are supporting us as a Federation to host this kind of World Championships, we are really looking towards the future to have more athletes to participate in swimming and water games.”

Running until 16 to 21 December on Yas Island, the Fina World Swimming Championships (25m) is the latest major event in a busy December of sport in Abu Dhabi after the completion of the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix last weekend and the beginning of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship at Zayed Sports City today (16 December).
