No more cut scenes for international movies in UAE cinemas

All movie-goers must be over 21.

Listen up cinephiles of Abu Dhabi because we have some blockbuster news to tell you about international films to be showcased in your local cinema.

The UAE’s Media Regulatory Office has introduced a 21+ rating so that the full version of films can be rolled at cinemas in Abu Dhabi and around the country without having to exclude specific scenes that contradict the office’s previous category standards.

Taking to Twitter, the Media Regulatory Office said there will be a robust process in place at all cinemas to ensure all cinema-goers are over 21.

It tweeted: “According to this classification, the international version of movies will be shown in cinemas, with an emphasis on the strict following of age classification standards for audience entry.”
