Abu Dhabi changes its COVID-19 testing requirements for passengers from India

A negative PCR test will only be needed for passengers travelling from India into Abu Dhabi.

Passengers travelling from India into Abu Dhabi will no longer need to undergo a rapid-PCR COVID-19 test it has been announced.

Revealed by Etihad Airways on their official website, the UAE’s national carrier said that those passengers travelling from India into the capital will now only have to present a negative PCR test not exceeding 48 hours before departure, from a government-approved facility.

The updated also added “children under the age of 12 years and those with severe and moderate disabilities” will be exempt from the rule.

Abu Dhabi is not the only emirate to remove the requirement of rapid tests for travellers from India.

Sharjah’s Air Arabia also confirmed the lifting of the measure with passengers arriving into the emirate needing a negative PCR test not exceeding 48 hours of the flight arrival time as well as undergoing a swab at the airport.

The airline’s website confirmed that children under 16 years are exempt from the tests and that the removal of the requirements also affects those flying from Pakistan, Kenya, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Egypt and Uganda.

On Tuesday (22 February), FlyDubai confirmed that passengers arriving in the city from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka do not need to undergo at rapid PCR test at their departure airport.
