AED 300,000 up for grabs at this Camel Milking Festival in Al Wathba

The event is a part of the Sheikh Zayed Festival.

The best camel milkers in the GCC will descend on Al Wathba over the next week to compete for a AED 300,000 prize at the Camel Milking Festival.

As part of the Sheikh Zayed Festival, around 300 camels from the UAE and the wider GCC will participate in the competition where owners or whoever they delegate, will milk the animal during the mornings and evenings from 3 to 8 March.

The camel milk will be measured directly in front of the judging panel with each camel’s total amount of milk recorded daily.

In terms of participation each camel should have given birth very recently and have undergone a pre-health checkup test between 27 February and 1 March.

Some 30 prizes are up for grabs in three categories; Al Majahim; Locals; and Open; with each category offering 10 prizes.

The winner of each category will receive AED 300,000 with second and third place taking home AED 200,000 and AED 100,000 respectively.

The competition aims to promote and preserve Emirati cultural and heritage activities, enhance awareness of how camels produce milk for society’s benefit and support camel-produced products.
