Listen up bookworms because your chance to enjoy panel discussions and poetry evenings as well as grabbing a few novels has come as the Emirati Book Fair (EBF) kicks off today (21 April).
Organised by the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) in partnership with the Emirates Writers Union, the second edition of the book festival will run for four days at the SBA headquarters in Al Zahia.
Open from 9pm to 1am, the EBF provides a platform for publishers, authors, and intellectuals to network and highlight new titles by emerging writers as well as promoting local content of every genre such as academic books, novels, historical titles and children’s literature.

The exhibition will also bring together Ali Al Abdan; Dr. Hamad Ben Saray; Sheikha Al Mutairi; Ahmad Al Assam; Amal Al Sahlawi; Awad bin Hasoum Al Darmaki; Salha Obaid; Eman Al Yousuf; Alia Al Mansoori; and Mona Alraisi, to discuss several cultural topics including the Emirati writer’s presence on the global scene, musical anthropology in Sharjah, and the creative journey of Emirati poet Ahmad Rashid Thani.
Speaking on the launch, Khawla Al Mujaini, Director of Exhibitions and Festivals at SBA, said the book fair highlights the authority’s vision to strengthen the local book industry movement and advance it by deliberating with creatives and renowned Emirati authors.
It is the first book event in as many weeks in the emirate with the announcement of the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival due to take place in May.
