The competition is open UAE-based students and recent graduates.
NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF) have announced the opening of applications for the Christo and Jeanne-Claude award 2022.
Under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Shamsa bint Hamdan Al Nayhan, the awards provide emerging artists from across the Emirates with an opportunity to showcase their new artwork as well as offering them an insight into the life of a professional, from commission to exhibition.
Open to UAE-based students and recent graduates, entrants may select any media with which to work including photography, sculpture, installation, land art and video.
The winning artist or team will be awarded $10,000 to complete their installation where it will be publicly displayed in Abu Dhabi.
Speaking on the 10th edition of the awards, Executive Director of The NYUAD Art Gallery and the university’s curator Maya Allison said: “Each year this award sparks meaningful new growth across the UAE’s creative community, as the artists work with the many people necessary to bring a major public artwork into being.
“That journey to the unveiling of the artwork is where I see Christo’s vision truly come alive. It is an honor for NYUAD to help make this possible.”
Christo and Jeanne-Claude were famous for creating works of public art around the world with plans in the pipeline to fulfil the couple’s decades-long dream to build a Mastaba structure in the Liwa desert, constructed from 410,000 multi-coloured, steel barrels.
For those looking to apply visit NYU Abu Dhabi and submit their proposed idea and budget before 31 January 2022.
