Explore the creative work of The Athath Fellowship showcase at Mina Zayed

The Athath Fellowship offers a programme in Furniture Making for Aspiring Entrepreneurs.

Abu Dhabi creatives will be demonstrating their genius as The Athath Fellowship: Furniture Making for Aspiring Entrepreneurs hosts its end of programme showcase this March.

Taking place at MiZa HQ at Mina Zayed on 6 and 7 March from 9am to 9pm, students will showcase their final piece alongside sketches, maquettes, and renderings.

Organised by MAKE and the American University of Sharjah with practical fabrication time in the Makerspace studios in Al Zeina, the programme offers those with a keen interest in furniture design to expand their expertise and to progress their skillset into launching a business model.

The professional 15-week course launched in October 2021 is led by Ammar Kalo: Furniture Designer, Architect, Associate Professor at the American University of Sharjah and winner of the silver award at the 2015 Milan Design Week.

The course encompasses field trips to local production sites, lectures with critically acclaimed designers and studio sessions with Kalo and practical sessions at Makerspace Al Zeina where fellows are able to put their theory into practice at the professional-grade workshop under the guidance of staff.

Speaking on the programme, one of the enrolees Rawan Alaydaroos said: The fellowship programme is a stepping stone for young and creative individuals, like myself, who desire initial guidance and knowledge to tap into the design business community, especially within the UAE.”

In order to attend the event at Mina Zayed, you must present a negative PCR test result not exceeding 96 hours.
