From courtroom debates to industry investigations, students at Bloom World Academy are exploring the real-life impact of artificial intelligence

Recognising the growing importance of emerging technologies, Bloom World Academy (BWA) in Dubai is giving students the opportunity to explore one of today’s most hotly debated topics: the ethics of artificial intelligence.

From taking on the roles of jurors in fictional court cases to researching AI’s impact on industries such as healthcare, policing, and e-commerce, Grade 9 and 10 students are diving into the real-world challenges and responsibilities that come with AI.

The interactive programme forms part of the school’s AI-focused BTEC course– the first of its kind in the UAE when introduced last year – and is now a core subject for students aged 14+.

Alongside developing their own AI-driven applications, students explore key topics such as data privacy, automation, and algorithmic bias. A classroom highlight is ‘Ethics on Trial’, a role-play activity in which students act as lawyers, jurors, and expert witnesses in mock trials, debating the moral implications of technologies like robots and driverless vehicles.

By blending ethics with tech know-how, BWA’s AI curriculum aims to shape socially responsible digital citizens who think critically and innovate wisely. As Founding Principal John Bell explains, “By addressing the ethical issues early, we’re nurturing a generation that will advocate for fairness, accountability, and responsible innovation.”
