GEMS Royal Dubai School new secondary campus set to open in 2026, expanding to Year 13

GEMS Royal Dubai School (RDS), a renowned British curriculum primary school in Mirdif, is set to launch its new secondary campus.

The expansion will begin with the introduction of Year 7 in August 2024, followed by Year 8 in 2025, and culminate in the opening of a dedicated secondary campus in August 2026, situated close to the existing site.

The school’s expansion plan is a strategic response to the increasing demand from existing families and the broader community

Jan Steel, Principal/CEO of GEMS Royal Dubai School, expressed excitement about the new developments.

“We are thrilled at the prospect of opening our secondary campus. This will give RDS students a seamless educational journey from age three to 18, offering a variety of pathways within the British curriculum, including GCSEs, iGCSEs, A-levels, BTEC, and vocational routes.”

With approvals pending from relevant authorities, the secondary campus aims to maintain the school’s high standards.

Jan added, “As a premium GEMS Education school, our experienced UK-trained teachers will continue to deliver high-quality learning opportunities across both primary and secondary as we enhance our links with our local community.

With our focus on ‘Family First’ and students being at the heart of our vision, the growth of RDS opens new doors as we continue to deliver the #RoyalStandard – defining excellence in education in the Mirdif area.”

RDS will gradually become an all-through school, serving students from Foundation Stage to Year 13.

The initial cohorts of Year 7 and Year 8 will start in the current building before moving to the new, purpose-built campus in 2026. This facility will include state-of-the-art amenities such as a science lab, design and food technology rooms, and expanded spaces for music, art, drama, and recreation.

The new campus will boast an innovation hub, makerspace, library, inclusion centre, performance hall, dance studio, recording studio, music rooms, and Sixth Form and senior study halls.

Additionally, it will feature a 25m swimming pool, a full-size football pitch, and padel courts. These facilities aim to provide students with a comprehensive educational experience that fosters both academic and extracurricular excellence.

GEMS Royal Dubai School’s dual-campus model has seen success at other GEMS schools, including GEMS Jumeirah Primary School and Jumeirah College. Drawing on these successful implementations, RDS plans to incorporate the best practices and features that have made the GEMS Jumeirah schools successful.

Since its opening as a primary school in September 2005, GEMS Royal Dubai School has been recognised for its exceptional quality of education following the National Curriculum for England, earning the status of Outstanding in all categories by British Schools Overseas (BSO).
