Hands-on with sustainability! Sharjah Sustainable City inspires University of Sharjah students in eco-friendly agriculture
Sharjah Sustainable City recently partnered with the University of Sharjah’s College of Fine Arts and Design (CFAD) to bring the principles of sustainable agriculture to life for a crowd of enthusiastic students.
The city joined CFAD’s Sustainability Day event, themed “Beyond the 17 Sustainable Development Goals”, with an interactive workshop that put sustainability into students’ hands – literally!
As part of the “Plant Your Pot” workshop, nearly 300 students, faculty, and staff learned how small, creative steps in agriculture can have big impacts on our environment.
The workshop encouraged participants to experiment with sustainable farming methods, sparking excitement and new ideas about eco-friendly practices.
Carl Atallah, Sharjah Sustainable City’s Director of Marketing & Communications, emphasised the power of collaboration to foster sustainable change: “Working together with CFAD allows us to tap into the creativity of the younger generation, using art and design as tools to face climate challenges.”
Professor Nadia M. Alhasani, CFAD’s Dean, added that these hands-on workshops are a vital part of their educational approach.
“We encourage students to think critically and draw inspiration from a range of environments,” she explained.
“This partnership perfectly aligns with our goal to engage students in real-life issues, like sustainable agriculture, and inspire them to incorporate eco-conscious solutions into their work.”
And it didn’t stop there – students left with sustainably made gifts as reminders of their commitment to greener practices.
The workshop builds on previous events like the wood recycling workshop earlier this year, reinforcing Sharjah Sustainable City’s mission to drive eco-friendly change within the community and beyond.
