The competition is a part of The Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition.
The most beautiful falcons in the UAE will be descending on Abu Dhabi for the launch of a new edition of the Most Beautiful Captive-Bred Falcons contest.
Taking place on Sunday 2 October, the competition will see the birds of prey take flight in three categories: Most Beautiful Saker (Local & International), Most Beautiful Pure Gyr (Local & International), and Most Beautiful Gyr Peregrine.
A facet of The Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX), birds will be evaluated on their weight and body measurements, the symmetry and colour of the feathers, the details of the birds’ head, body and legs, the birds’ general aesthetic appearance, as well as their health and the absence of any diseases at the Emirates Facolners Club’s stand at the exhibition at 6pm.
Speaking on the event Majid Ali Al Mansouri, the Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee and Secretary-General of the Emirates Falconers Club, said the emirate a leader in the field of events that seek to preserve cultural heritage, conserve wildlife, and protect the environment.
He added that the contest aims to encourage the falconers to use captive-bred falcons while practising their favourite sport and it motivates experts in falconry and falcon farms to produce larger and more beautiful falcons in terms of feathers and colour, thus replacing the use of wild falcons and allowing them to breed in their natural habitats.
The hunting of wild animals in the UAE was outlawed in 1978 and since then, the country has sought to conserve wildlife and protect falcons in the wild with programmes that promote captive-bred falcons.
ADIHEX will run from 26 September to 2 October.
