Al Dhafra Water Festival 2022: Dates and activities announced

Dhow races, fishing championships music and more at the Al Dhafra Water Festival 2022.

The Al Dhafra Water Festival for 2022 will be held at Al Mirfa City’s Mughirah Beach this month it has been announced.

Taking place from 17 to 26 March, the festival organised by the Cultural Programmes and Heritage Festivals Committee – Abu Dhabi and the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, promotes Emirati marine heritage through a variety edutainment activities and events.

You can expect the Tafrees Traditional Race; Marwah Traditional Dhow Sailing Race (43 ft); Al Mirfa Traditional Rowing Race; Al Dhafrah Regatta; Salahah Al Bwanish Sailing Race; fishing championship; carrom, dominoes; iron-man competitions; live multi-sport events; camping area performances by the Abu Dhabi Folklore Troupe and more from the 13th edition of the festival.

 

 

Kids can get involved in the fun as with the Children’s Village where there will be folk costume shows; cooking competitions; traditional handicraft shows; and the Theater, including daily competitions and prizes, among other activities catering to different age groups from 4pm to 10pm.

And when it’s time to refuel, head to a vast array of food trucks for a bite to eat.

But the Al Dhafra Water Festival 2022 is not the only maritime event to be held in Abu Dhabi this March.

Seafaring adventurers can get their water kicks as well by visiting the Maritime Heritage Festival held on the Abu Dhabi Corniche.

Taking place between 18 and 27 March, you can enjoy a local coastal village, bustling markets, traditional social gatherings as well as seafaring stories and skills shared by traditional sailors, tradespeople, and craftspeople.
