All aboat the 5th Historic Dalma Race Festival

From 27 October to 3 November 2022, the capital is set to host the largest of its kind exciting race.

Under the patronage of Hamdan bin Zayed, the 5th Historic Dalma Race Festival is all set to take place in the capital.

The race has been organised by Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club and Cultural Programs and Heritage Festivals Committee. Scheduled for 27 October – 3 November, the sail-ebrations will take place at Dalma Island in Al Dhafra Region.

At the core of the Dalma Historical Race Festival is the aim to underline the significance of festival tourism and traditional sports. Additionally, they hope to support community events and Emirati productive families alongside reviving marine traditions.

The largest of its kind throughout history, the 60-foot dhow sailing, which covers a distance of 80 nautical miles (125km), is the only race that takes off from Dalma Island. Post flagging off, the course touches eight islands: Sir Baniyas, Ghasha, Umm Al KurKum, Al Fatayer, Al Bazm, Al Fay, Marawah and Janana before finishing at Al Mirfa city.

It’s a full lineup ahead, filled with exhilarating traditional and aquatic activities, including the Fishing Competition (casting), dominoes contests for men and women, carrom tournaments, cycling, running, fireworks, theatre events, and other folklore shows.

You’ll find the Souq as part of the festival, which contains a number of traditional kiosks displaying Emirati maritime heritage. Also on display are local heritage products and popular foods, in addition to the Children’s Village & Theater with their daily competitions and prizes, heritage and folk contests, traditional handicrafts, and other functions that cater to all age groups.
