Dubai To Host The First Local Climate Summit

The event will take place alongside COP28 in December

The COP28 fever is in full swing, and the latest announcement is a big first for the country.

The first local climate summit is all set to take place at COP28 in Dubai, bringing together ‘subnational global leaders’ to help governments reach net-zero ambitions.

The announcement was made by COP28 president-designate Sultan Ahmed al-Jaber and UN special envoy Michael Bloomberg.

Scheduled to be held from 1-2 December, alongside COP28, the summit will see hundreds of mayors, governors and other regional leaders come together to deliver climate action plans.

“By bringing hundreds of local leaders to COP28, we will foster new, multi-level partnerships to help fast-track the energy transition, fix climate finance, focus on people, lives and livelihoods, and make sure local voices are heard at the international climate table,” said Dr. Al Jaber.

The event will also have several notable co-chairs, including US President Joe Biden’s climate envoy, John Kerry, and China’s climate envoy Xie Zhenhua.

Another major event coming up is in the UAE capital, with the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group ramping up their environmental campaign for their eagerly awaited Sustainable Business Leadership Forum.

Entitled ‘Nature Positive Growth’ in line with COP28 preparations, the event will take place at the Anantara Eastern Mangroves on 4 and 5 October.

With over 200 delegates expected, the event will discuss pressing local crisis issues regarding climate change and explore the role businesses, markets and society can play overall.
