A major regional volleyball tournament is coming to Abu Dhabi

The competition will feature six volleyball teams including Abu Dhabi’s Fatima Bint Mubarak Academy Team.

The best ladies’ netball teams in the Middle East will be descending on Abu Dhabi for the inaugural GCC Volleyball Cup.

Taking place at the Jiu-Jitsu Arena in Zayed Sports City between 26 and 31 August, the tournament will feature six teams including UAE teams – Fatima Bint Mubarak Academy Team, Al Wasl Club and Sharjah Ladies Club.

Organised by The Fatima Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy, the event will also showcase Saudi Noura Club from Saudi Arabia, Salwa Al Sabah from Kuwait and Bahrain Club from Bahrain.

Some 72 athletes will take part in the six-day tournament which will also see action on the court on Emirati Women’s Day.

Speaking on the announcement, Board Member of the Fatima Bint of Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy, Amal Al-Afifi said; “The launch of the first GCC Volleyball Cup for Ladies represents another significant moment in the FBMA’s history as we continue our journey of creating regular opportunities for women to participate and succeed in the sport.

“Volleyball is a game that goes from strength to strength and rises in popularity. We are delighted to be bringing this important Gulf competition to Abu Dhabi that will showcase the best talent the region has to offer.”
