Road to COP28 will become the first youth-led event of its kind in Dubai

The event will bring together students aged seven to 15 at Expo City Dubai

With 2023 being the ‘Year of Sustainability’ in the UAE, the country has seen an increase in green initiatives ahead of the 28th United Nations climate change summit, Conference of Parties (COP28).

In that vein, Road to COP28 will be the first COP28 Presidency-hosted and youth-led event to be held on 15 March.

The day-long event consists of three programmes, including interactive workshops, sustainability initiatives and a platform for the UAE’s leadership to share their ambitions for COP28 alongside youth climate advocates.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation announced the move with the aim to include all sections of the society – “particularly the youth – to “collectively drive a solutions-oriented COP28 agenda”.

Open to students aged seven to 15, the event will revolve around four strategic pillars: participation, action, voice, and education. The Road to COP28 event will highlight the priorities and principles underpinning COP28, through a varied program of activities to engage with more than 3,000 people.

COP28’s Youth Climate Champion, Shamma Al Mazrui, said the event creates a new narrative that brings about desired transformations. She called on the youth to be change-makers by adopting a culture of flexibility, innovating solutions, and seizing opportunities.
