There is a beauty contest for dates happening in Sharjah this weekend

The competition takes place at Expo Al Dhaid.

Date lovers will have the opportunity this weekend to see some of the most beautiful dates in the world as the sixth edition of the Al Dhaid Date Festival continues in Sharjah.

Beginning on Thursday (21 July), the four-day event sees date farmers compete for the prestigious titles of Al Ratab Beauty, Largest Dates Branch, Best Lemons, Fig Contest, Al Heseel Date Contest, and Most Beautiful Dates Basket (only for women) and a slice of the prize pot of AED 1 million.

Taking place at Expo Al Dhaid, each category offers rewards of between AED1,000 and AED25,000.

The first day of the festival saw beauty contests for Khunaizi dates, the largest dates branch, as well as the most beautiful basket.

Today (Friday 22 July), features beauty competitions for Shishi dates and Fard dates, as well as Heseel dates.

Saturday will see beauty contests for Khalas dates and Lemons before concluding with beauty contests for Al Nukhba dates and fig.

Organised by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), the festival provides farmers with scientific advice on contemporary farming techniques.

The event also highlights the importance to enhance the sustainability of traditional crafts.
