Popular American musical West Side Story to play at Dubai Opera

Thrilling audiences since 2003, the musical will feature Jerome Robbins’ original choreography.

With the Jets and Sharks around, you know you’re in for a pretty epic time.

Come April, Dubai Opera is gearing up to present the most popular American musical of all time, West Side Story. The rare touring production will feature Jerome Robbins’ original choreography, the one responsible for enticing audiences on three continents since 2003.

A new international creative team has been assembled around the renowned Broadway director and actor Lonny Price, who will open the next chapter in the epic success story witnessed by over three million people in 28 countries.

For the uninitiated, the story revolves around a rivalry between the New York street gang Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. As the fiery Latinas dream of a better life amidst the fights, a great love story emerges, fighting but failing to overcome the obstacles and prejudices that stand in their way.

With its 1957 Broadway premiere, Leonard Bernstein, Jerome Robbins, Arthur Laurents and Stephen Sondheim redefined an entire genre, both musically and in terms of dance. And the several Oscar nominations and two movie adaptations are just the tip of a starry iceberg!

Don’t miss out on the chance to catch this ‘Romeo and Juliet’ adaptation on this side of the globe.
