National Aquarium: A Major visitor attraction to open this weekend in Abu Dhabi

Tickets will start at AED 105.

The time to unleash your inner Jacques Cousteau is upon us as the National Aquarium is set to open to the world this weekend.

Located in the new, mega-lifestyle district of Al Qana, the visitor attraction boasts more than 60 exhibits across 10 zones and is home to some 46,000 marine and aquatic creatures including the largest collection of sharks and rays in the world as well as ‘Super Snake’ a 14-year-old female reticulated python.

The aquarium will also be involved in the rehabilitation of injured wildlife after signing a five-year partnership with The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD).

Speaking at the opening, general manager, Paul Hamilton, told reporters that education, rescue, and rehabilitation will be the guiding priorities of the National Aquarium.

He said: “Our entire facility has been designed to provide both children and adults with world-class interactive learning opportunities, to spotlight the vital role our marine environment plays on the wellbeing of all.

“With the 2020 whale shark rescues and over 250 Sea Turtles already rehabilitated and released back into the Arabian Gulf, The National Aquarium is already holding up its promise to contribute to conservation in the Emirate.”

With an average visit time of two hours, the National Aquarium provides guests a chance to fully dive into the marine world where they can go on glass bottom dhow tours, feed sharks as long as two metres and experience encounters with puffins, spiders and a variety of other fascinating species.

The National Aquarium opens on Friday 12 November and tickets start at AED 105.
