SHREK THE MUSICAL: Revel in the Magic of Far Far Away

Whether you’re a die-hard fan of the Shrek franchise or simply looking for a fun and entertaining day out, Shrek the Musical will always be a must-see.

Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and the book by William Steig, Shrek The Musical was a lively production full of humour, talented performers, and catchy songs that will delight audiences of all ages.

Hosted at the spectacular Dubai Opera House, children are bound to love the colourful characters and whimsical storyline, while parents will appreciate the clever jokes and pop culture references sprinkled throughout.

“Ogres are like onions”

The show tells the story of everyone’s favourite loveable green ogre, Shrek, who embarks on a quest to rescue Princess Fiona from a tower guarded by a fire-breathing dragon. The talented cast truly brings the story to life. The lead actors, who play Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey, are superb, with strong vocals and great comedic timing. But the supporting characters really steal the show, from the sassy Gingerbread Man to the hilarious Lord Farquaad, who is played on his knees for maximum comedic effect. Every cast member brings energy and enthusiasm to their roles, making for a truly enjoyable performance.

Of course, a musical would only be complete with some toe-tapping songs, and the performance features 19 additional tunes to the already popular soundtrack. From the catchy opening number, “Big Bright Beautiful World”, to the rousing finale, “I’m a Believer,” the show is filled with memorable tunes that will have you humming along long after the curtain has closed. The standout number, however, is undoubtedly “Freak Flag,” an anthem of self-acceptance that is both inspiring and entertaining.

Imaginative Staging and Set Design

Despite being a relatively small-scale production, the show manages to transport audiences to the fantastical world of the film thanks to the clever use of projections, puppetry, and costumes. From the towering dragon that guards Fiona’s tower to the colourful ensemble of fairy tale creatures, the show is a visual feast that will keep you captivated from start to finish.

“My favourite character was donkey. He was just as funny as the movie!” Arthur, 10 years

“The best part was the singing at the end. I couldn’t stop dancing!” Zara, 7 years
