As the heat of the summer nears, our minds as residents of Abu Dhabi are unsurprisingly on holidays abroad.
Nearer home, though, some rather superb, short local breaks with summer staycation offers are being launched across the capital. And at the helm, the team at The St Regis Saadiyat Island Resort have added a clever twist at Signature 3 with an ultimate must-try experience.

If you have had the pleasure of dining at Signature 3, you will already be aware of the high-ceilinged terrace that yields stupendous views overlooking the grounds of The St Regis Saadiyat Island Resort where the manicured grounds merge with the glistening sea on the horizon. There is really something to be said about dining as the waves crash on the pristine sands of the stunning Saadiyat Beach.
Upon arriving, diners were already ensconced at the indoor dining tables. But since the evening surrendered cooler temperatures, we opted for al fresco, being seated by the accommodating waiting staff on a table on the terrace, dining by candlelight to the sounds of the sea.
Signature 3 has an extensive and sumptuous menu with a range of cuisines; however, we were drawn to the ‘STEAK-ation’ menu which offers a selection of the finest meat from around the world and perfectly paired with a selection of grape. As we mulled over the menu, a delicate, home-made focaccia stuffed with olives and roasted tomatoes was served.
Dinner began with calamari, lightly coated in batter and fried with fresh chilli and a sweet chilli sauce – a wonderful combination, with the right amount of heat, sweetness and saltiness. Our waiter helpfully advised us that the portions were ample size and that one bowl might suffice but, as calamari lovers, we ordered two and devoured both, which tasted oh so good.
The STEAK-ation menu includes three signature steaks: Wagyu +7 Beef Striploin, Black Angus Spicy Beef Tenderloin and Black Angus Beef Rib Eye. For that extra indulgence, freshly Pan-Seared Foie Gras can be ordered straight from the flambe trolley.
We love our steaks somewhere between medium-rare and rare. The waiter diligently listened to us and took our order and the chef delivered, beautifully, both in presentation and taste. The steaks were served on a wooden board, accompanied by charred asparagus, broccolini and oyster mushrooms alongside a pepper sauce which was a perfect combination with the rich, tender and succulent steaks.
The view, the waves, the ambience, the calamari, the steaks made for a truly memorable evening and which is a testament to the superb offerings this restaurant and hotel provide.
