REVIEW: Silk & Spice, Sofitel Abu Dhabi Corniche

Have a drink at The Siam Bar.

A fragrant Thai meal at Silk & Spice at the Sofitel Abu Dhabi Corniche is the perfect reintroduction to dining out after the festive food rush.

This popular, award-winning restaurant first opened its doors in 2012 and has been a crowd pleaser ever since with its bold and authentic dishes, and it certainly pleased Team Yalla on their recent visit.

The restaurant is elegant in design, being a blend of clean marble flooring, art adorned walls and angular fittings, contrasting with and complementing the traditional artisan style wooden ceilings.

Most high-end restaurants today seek to balance a modern and traditional décor and Silk & Spice does it well – stylish yet in an uncontrived, unpretentious manner. The Siam Bar adds further refinement and offers signature mixed drinks and others.

The restaurant is open and spacious but should you want more intimacy there are booths with sofa-lined tables offering views over the Corniche and sea. For groups, there’s a low table sunk into the floor, a fun touch that can make your dining experience that little more authentic.

For starters, we had the deep-fried minced chicken wrapped in spring roll sheet and deep-fried crab meat with minced prawn.

For the main, we had a green chicken curry and a prawn red curry both of which were intense in flavour and packed with heat and spice, the latter came with pieces of pineapple and grapes giving it a subtle sweetness.

Both curry dishes were excellent and are highly recommended. We finished with a wonderful and light mango sorbet for dessert.

Silk & Spice offers well executed high-end Thai food but not at a high-end price, and who doesn’t enjoy that?
