What we tried
The Performance Experience, a deep tissue 60-minute massage designed to relieve tension, invigorate the body and improve circulation.
The venue
A new type of spa on the block, BAR-B is a unique experience that combines socialising with pampering. Featuring four treatment rooms and a beauty bar, the spa also boasts relaxation areas with its own bar, inviting you to unwind with a glass of bubbles or mixed drink in hand.
According to those in the know at W Hotels, the idea is that BAR-B has turned the traditional spa experience on its head and introduced a new take on relaxation and self-care.
A winning formula: you can now be fed, watered and pampered simultaneously, either by yourself or grab a friend and make a day of it.
Although there are no wet or thermal facilities available, you will find a relaxing atmosphere and impressive treatments for beauty and wellbeing.
Their wide array of nourishing facials, including their signature Celestial Black Diamond Non-Surgical Lift Facial, and soothing body treatments, all use the 111SKIN brand.
The luxe global skincare label was co-founded by Harley-Street surgeons Yannis Alexandrides and his wife, Eva Alexandrides.
Coveted by a host of makeup artists, models and fashion designers, the blurb on the bottle says that 111SKIN provides clinical results.
BAR-B also has a nail bar offering Bio Sculpture, the world’s first UV curing, soakable, colour nail gel, promising to leave your mani-pedi in perfect shape for weeks.
The experience
BAR-B is located on the 30th floor of the swanky W Dubai – Mina Seyahi. The spa opened last summer, so it still has that new, polished look with beautiful lighting and inviting plush sofas.
Upon arrival, I am offered the complimentary drinks menu; tea, coffee, infused water, or a glass of bubbles (one complimentary glass per person), or you can choose other paid options from their specially curated beverage menu.
As I relax by the huge windows, there is nothing to do but enjoy the spectacular view of Dubai Marina.
Once ready, my therapist, Khine, leads me into the treatment room – all fluffy white towels and floor-to-ceiling windows.
After I choose the pressure of my massage (firm) and massage oil (111SKIN Performance for deep tissue kneading), Khine gets to work finding the exact pressure points to open the flow of energy, lengthen my muscles and release deep-rooted tension.
The aromatic massage oil smells wonderful.
A heady blend of eucalyptus, enlivening tangerine and anti-inflammatory ginger, the oil is gently warmed first to help ease knots and tight muscles. It also made my skin silky-smooth.
Post-treatment, I glide in my waffle dressing gown back into the relaxation area, where a cup of citrus tea, nuts, and dried fruit awaits.
The verdict
The deep tissue massage was spot on for a guaranteed hit of relaxation.
The treatment was thorough yet relaxing, and my stressed, post-party body now feels infinitely less tense.
With Valentine’s Day around the corner, the spa is a great option for couples looking to celebrate.
