The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi has turned up the heat this autumn with the announcement of its hotly anticipated Season 4 events calendar with performances taking place from September 2018 to May 2019. Fill your calendar with nine months of performances by exceptional artists that connect cultures, genres, and styles. Whether you’re a fan of rap, EDM, classical music, theatre or the spoken word, there is a performance for you come September.
Over the past three seasons, The Arts Center has welcomed over 55,000 attendees to its 250 shows and over 500 outreach and engagement events, with over 80 performances and 160 events set for the upcoming season. This year, the shows are curated under the themes of Connection, Community, and Excellence. The programme of events explore the connection of cultures, genres, and styles, spotlighting artists who excel in their fields and creating platforms for new artists to emerge and showcase their voices.
The season commences on 5-6 September with the Middle East premiere of Dance by Lucinda Childs Dance Company, which made its UAE debut in 2017 to help mark the opening of the Louvre Abu Dhabi. The union of flamenco guitar and Algerian madola follows with Chaabi Flamenco on 19 October when virtuosos Juan Carmona and Ptit Moh extend their unique Arab-Andalusian musical bridge. The season concludes on 19 April 2019 with a spoken word poetry slam competition by local favourite Rooftop Rhythms. With everything from Electronic Dance Music to a live 8-hour reading of American classic novel The Great Gatsby and Judo dance to a Valentine’s Day live outdoor performance of Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra, this season will be one that is not to miss.

Families should flock to Tangle by Polyglot Theatre – an interactive playground for kids and kids at heart—dads love Polyglot. Polyglot charmed families in The Arts Center’s opening in 2015 with thousands of boxes turned into building blocks in We Built This City. On weekends from 8-17 November, Polyglot’s engaging return piece, Tangle invites children into a vibrant world where they weave colorful balls of ribbon between poles to create a participatory environment for free play, accompanied by live music. With each day, scheduled to coincide with Abu Dhabi Art, the piece becomes more and more elaborate as the dense structure becomes an artwork in itself.
