Teen vs Shake at Black Tap

No visit to Yas Mall is complete without a sweet treat at the New York City export Black Tap located in the Cascade Dining area. The outlet’s insta-famous CrazyShakes™ have a cult-like following, so Yalla thought it only right to test them against some Abu Dhabi teens. In reviewing, the Yalla teens measured the shakes by their aesthetic, architecture, and ultimately their taste.

Here’s what our teens thought about Black Tap’s CrazyShakes™…

COOKIE N’ CREAM SUPREME

"I was especially impressed with how the shake makers got the GIANT ice cream sandwich to balance and stay on top of the whipped cream mountain." -- Kaitlyn

Vanilla frosted rim with crushed Oreos topped with a ‘cookies ‘n cream’ crumbled Oreo, whipped cream & chocolate drizzle.

With an enormous Oreo cookie ice cream sandwich sitting precariously on the shake’s glass rim, the Cookie ‘n Cream Shake was a hit for its architecture and mostly a hit for its taste, which the group thought a bit basic. The toppings made this shake standout. You can’t go wrong with this shake, because, according to Stella, everyone knows that: ‘anything Oreo-flavoured is delicious!!’

SOUR POWER SHAKE

“If you really do taste with your eyes, you can become hyper with excitement just looking at this shake.” -- Lana

Vanilla frosted rim with sour gummi poppers topped with a pixy stix, rainbow pop, sour skewer, whipped cream, and nerds.

The Sour Power Shake is ideal for true candy fans and sweet and sour lovers, but it was another great one to look at and perhaps share?

CAKE SHAKE

"Get up and watch this one being made if you can!" -- Skye

Vanilla frosted rim with rainbow sprinkles topped with funfetti cake slice, whipped cream, rainbow sprinkles, and a cherry on top.

Overall, the teens thought the Cake Shake was a showstopper but lacked a balance of flavours. They recommend it as one to share and definitely one to Instagram.

SWEET N’ SALTY SHAKE

"I loved how far opposite of blended it felt—each mouthful was varied to the last sip!" -- Lana

Chocolate frosted rim with chocolate gems and peanut butter cups topped with a sugar daddy, pretzel rods, chocolate covered pretzel, whipped cream, and chocolate drizzle.

Almost the group favourite and a solid runner-up, the Sweet n’ Salty Shake has a lot going on. This shake has a really good combination of both sweet and salty elements and the M&Ms around the rim added a colourful touch of vibrancy, which made it fun to drink and eat (the M&Ms, that is—picking them off one-by-one).

AND THE WINNER...S’MORES SHAKE

"This was the BEST shake." -- Stella

Vanilla frosted rim with campfire marshmallow flavour, whipped cream, Hershey’s chocolate syrup and crushed Graham crackers.

Black Tap’s limited edition shake, the S’mores Shake was only on the menu to celebrate National S’mores day, but it was a hands-down winner with our teens. Receiving a 10/10 from everyone, this shake is loaded with warm and fluffy marshmallows, gooey melted chocolate, and crunchy crackers. Put all of that together with a cold milkshake and it’s a perfect match, according to the girls. Even watching as the shake was being made filled our teens with excitement, and as for the smell- well, they were sold before they even had a bite!

Though Black Tap’s crazy shakes are beyond famous; the food menu is also not to be missed. Indulge in crowd favourites likes Black Tap’s classic All-American Burger and the all-natural Californian Burger, which comes served with turkey, avocado, Swiss cheese and truffle mayo. Other favourites available include superfood salads, spicy Korean BBQ chicken wings, tacos and a surprisingly tasty vegan burger.
