Family Weekend: Discover your Inner Warrior

Travel back in time to discover captivating stories from ancient knights and female warriors, make your own heroic armour fit for the battlefield and enjoy pony rides in Louvre Abu Dhabi’s Park.
Join the Youth Festival parade and take part in free activities in the park. Spot the police horse patrols dressed in their traditional attire and learn about the history of Abu Dhabi Police Cavalry. Don’t miss The Singing Trees, a choir of palm trees that sing louder when they are hugged, as well as falconry display and family film screenings.
All activities are free with your museum admission ticket.

Film Screenings
Inspired by legends of chivalric knights, battles, noble causes and a code of honour, these films tell tales of Arthur and Excalibur and the exceptional skills of the warrior elite ‘Mamluks’, celebrated for their horsemanship and military discipline.
With the Sirat Antar being compared to English literature’s Arthurian romances, the culture of chivalry will be rewritten and adapted for generations to come.

The Young Black Stallion

Celebrated ‘horse whisperer’ Ali Al Ameri from the UAE trained the horses and was also an actor in this film. Ali will be present prior to the screening for an exclusive short talk and horse performance at 3:30pm in the auditorium plaza.
The Eagle Huntress

Aisholopan, a 13-year-old girl, trains to be the first female in twelve generations of her Kazakh family to become an eagle hunter. Her father believes that a girl can do anything a boy can, as long as she’s determined. She rises to the pinnacle of a centuries-old tradition.
Set in the breathtaking Mongolian plains, the film features awe-inspiring cinematography, giving this tale of a young girl’s quest the drama of an epic narrative film.
The Eagle Huntress is executive produced and narrated by Star Wars Daisy Ridley. Aisholpan’s story is a modern and inspiring one.
The Kid Who Would Be King

The Warrior

The debut from Asif Kapadia, best known for his award-winning films Senna and Amy, the film stars renowned Indian actor Irfan Khan (The Lunchbox, Life Of Pi).
A visually stunning epic about a man torn between the path of peace and war. Lafcadia is the leader of a group of warriors but he renounces his violent ways and sets off on a journey to find his home village in the mountains – and to find, and escape, his former self.
The Warrior won both ‘Outstanding Debut’ and ‘Outstanding British Film’ awards in 2003.

The Singing Trees

Timed to coincide with the UAE’s Innovation Month February 2020, Louvre Abu Dhabi, together with Théâtre du Châtelet with the support of Bloomberg Philanthropies, are proud to present Singing Trees, a world premiere and a new interactive installation.
After its premiere at Louvre Abu Dhabi, Singing Trees will be presented in different cities around the world.
A technologically innovative art installation that reflects on the importance of the environment and the need to conserve nature in the face of climate change, The Singing Trees features a choir of palm trees that sing louder when they are hugged!

MUSICAL PERFORMANCE UNDER THE DOME
The Song of Roland: the Arabic version

Inspired by one of the oldest works of French literature La Chanson de Roland (The Song of Roland) and the French Lebanese writer Amin Malouf’s 1983 book The Crusades through Arab Eyes, Egyptian artist Wael Shawky’s work blends the cultures and traditions of medieval Europe with those of the Arabian Gulf.
Set against a backdrop designed by Shawky, The Song of Roland features more than 20 singers and musicians performing in the classical Arabic ‘fidjeri’ style, which first developed more than 800 years amongst fishermen in the Arabian Gulf. Combining history and theatre with art, music and myth, the work interrogates stereotypes associated with the history of the Crusades and reflects it from an Arab perspective.
