The Louvre Abu Dhabi Children’s Museum newest exhibition Animals, Between Real and Imaginary! explores how animals and mankind have inspired artists since the dawn of time.
Animals have been depicted in all periods of history since humans first started drawing on cave walls.
Visitors to the exhibition will be introduced to the way animals, both real and imaginary, have been portrayed by artists over the years in different artforms, such as masks and mummification.
The exhibition presents works from the collection of Louvre Abu Dhabi and pieces on loan from different museums throughout France and features fun art, funky masks, and even a mummified cat.
The Louvre Abu Dhabi education department has created a range of materials to help families and children better experience both the Children’s Museum and the museum collection and architecture.
Pro Tip:
Ask in the Children’s Museum for Discovery Cards to help kids explore the purpose of each animal and why they were represented in these works of art. Then, go off into the museum collection and search for all instances of animals in art— that could keep a family busy for hours!
