Recycling in Abu Dhabi is about to get a lot easier thanks to new separating stations that are set to be launched across the Capital.
The new recycling stations are just the first step in the UAE’s efforts to encourage better recycling habits and drive the country towards becoming more environmentally-friendly. Each station gives residents the opportunity to separately dispose of wood, cardboard, mobile phones, used batteries, plastic, wool, metal, cotton, and glass.
The first station was trialled for a period of two months at the entrance of Khalidiya Park, and in the first month, it collected three tonnes of waste. Following that successful trial, 16 recycling stations are now set to be launched across the city, with an additional 10 planned for Al Ain.
Officially launched by the Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Dr Thani Al Zeyoudi, the new initiative comes as part of a much wider campaign to educate the UAE about recycling.
Tadweer has been rolling out programs to local schools to teach children about waste and its impact on the environment. Whilst most efforts have been directed at children, adults have also been receiving their fair share of education too, as Tadweer continue to work with local government departments, businesses, and other organisations.
