Our next Rising Star is 18-year-old Arissa, who is the Head Girl at the British School Al Khubairat. Arissa has just finished her A Levels and has received a provisional offer to study law at Cambridge University in September. Perhaps equally as impressively though, Arissa only moved to Abu Dhabi just two years ago from the UK, so had to adjust to moving to a new country at the same time as starting her A-Levels. Here’s how our Rising Star made the most of her new opportunities…
Moving to a new country can be a daunting process for anyone- having to adapt to a new way of life, make new friends, and generally find your feet in your new home. Now add in to the mix the fact that you will start studying for your A Levels immediately after that move, and you’ll get an idea of how our next Rising Star felt!
But 18-year-old Arissa was determined to make the most of her new-found home and turn what others may see as a challenge into a wealth of opportunities. Fast-forward to today, and Arisa has finished her A-Levels, has a provisional offer to study law at Cambridge University, and is the Head Girl at the British School Al Khubairat.
“Challenge yourself and step outside of your comfort zone…”
When we asked Arissa how she not just coped with the transition of moving to a new country but really thrived in the process, she told us “my philosophy has always simply been to not let myself to get too comfortbale, no matter what I’m doing. I believe that you should alway challenge herself and step outside of your comfort zone whenever you have the opportunity to.”
