Yoga is not only an effective method to reduce stress but is also a good way to get fit and stay healthy. Yalla caught up with Mina Lee, the studio owner of YOGAONE to learn more
HOW DID YOU BECOME INTERESTED IN YOGA?
It was a happy accident. I was looking to take better care of myself and happened to see a yoga studio while I was walking on the street. I was drawn to the practise right after my very first class. My body was stronger and healthier within a few months of consistent practise but the mental clarity and awareness after it brought out the better person within me. This naturally led me to desire to share the gift of yoga with others through teaching.
WHAT ARE THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF YOGA FOR WOMEN?
Women face a number of difficulties when dealing with their personal and professional lives. It can be hard to find time to relax. Yoga’s most obvious benefits relate to stress reduction, flexibility, strength and relaxation. While it’s no cure, yoga can be an effective adjunct therapy for a variety of conditions, from fertility to breast cancer to positive body image.
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO START PRACTISING YOGA?
Yoga isn’t about extreme flexibility or contorting your muscles and spine into fancy shapes. It’s about breathing, finding inner strength through meditation, and creating freedom in the body with yoga poses. It’s truly that simple. Start with accepting all aspects of life. Take a moment to appreciate your body, your life, and your circumstances and release expectations, such as ‘I should be able to touch my toes already…’ and make sure you have fun!
