Abu Dhabi Festival announces programme for 2022

Visual art, opera, dance and more.

Abu Dhabi will be awash with artists and aesthetes in 2022 as the Abu Dhabi Festival bursts back into life.

The culture gathering will bring more than 1,000 artists to the capital who will perform and create work through the mediums of classical music, dance, film, literature, opera and visual art.

Operating under the theme of Crafting the Emirates State of Mind: Creation, Innovation and Joy, highlights of the festival founded by Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF), include a Roberto Bolle performance at Emirates Palace on 9 January; Paolo Fresu Trio – a jazz performance happening at Umm Al Emarat Park on 6 March; and The Abrahamic Symphony in October to mark the opening of the interfaith complex on Saadiyat Island.

A series of talks, workshops and performances, centred around the exhibition and the visual arts scene in the UAE will take place throughout its three-month run from January to April 2022 alongside the publication of Portrait of a Nation II.

Speaking at the programme reveal, Her Excellency Huda I. Alkhamis-Kanoo, Founder of the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation and Founder and Artistic Director of Abu Dhabi Festival said the ADMAF has striven to support the UAE arts community since its inception.

H.E. Huda I. Alkhamis-Kanoo said: “To an artist, a simple inert log of wood or a slab of marble assumes life. It carries a promise: a shape to be teased from the material, beauty to be carved out, a thought to be expressed. And what carries the visionary towards their vision, transforming an idea into reality is craftsmanship.

“ADMAF has strived to support visionary artists who allow us each year to witness this intricate process.”

It is another piece of exciting news for Abu Dhabi’s art community which has seen a number of major announcements made in the past fortnight including the schedules for the Sheikh Zayed Festival, Mother of the Nation Festival and Al Hosn Festival.

There is also the Abu Dhabi Art Fair 2021 which kicked off today (17 November) on Saadiyat Island.
