The artwork was commissioned by The Abu Dhabi Sports Aviation Club.
Abu Dhabi is no stranger to breaking records and the emirate has added another Guinness World Record to its book with the world’s largest sand image.
Covering an area of more than 250,000 feet, artist Nathaniel Alapide created a sand art image depicting a map of the UAE and the portraits of the UAE’s leaders including the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the UAE, the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, in honor of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and Rulers of the Emirates.
Commissioned by The Abu Dhabi Sports Aviation Club, Alapide spent 30 days creating the image.
The work of art consists of four different colours of sand from the UAE desert and took 150 trucks holding 80 tonnes of sand each to complete the image.
Other world records the city holds include the fastest rollercoaster in the world; Formula Rossa at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi; and the world’s largest indoor theme park at Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi.
