City of Music: Abu Dhabi’s sounds charm UNESCO

Liverpool, Auckland and Spain have received the title in the past.

It’s news to put the beat in everyone’s feet; Abu Dhabi has been designated as a City of Music.

The title bestowed on the capital by the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, recognises the efforts of Abu Dhabi to develop and invest in the music scene to drive social development and economic diversification.

Abu Dhabi joins the likes of Liverpool (England), Auckland (New Zealand), Sevilla (Spain) and Chennai (India) as other destinations to receive designation.

The news is the latest string to Abu Dhabi’s bow which was named a Bike City by the Union Cycliste Internationale.

The Bike City title acknowledges a city’s commitment to the UCI’s Cycling for All strategy which aims to promote cycling as a healthy and more sustainable means of transport.

Abu Dhabi also took home four gongs from the 28th World Travel Awards with the city being declared as the leading Middle East destination in Sports Tourism, Business Travel, Wedding and Leading Marketing Campaign.

An armchair sports lover, he is on a personal mission to attend every sporting event in the UAE to make out for most likely missing the big one in Doha in November.
