Soulful sounds, delicious dishes and the sounds of the sea.
It’s alfresco brunch season and the fresh air, great food and party vibes are beckoning. And if one brunch meets all these criteria, it has to be the recently launched Brunch at West Bay Lounge.
And the brilliant thing (and there are many others) about this superb brunch is you are seated on the beach at the edge of the sea.
Greeted by our impeccable host, we are led to our table just a metre or so from the water’s edge. It’s the kind of situation one dreams about – sipping bubbly to the sounds of the waves lapping the pristine sands while, under the sunshine, being served the most scrumptious dishes in town.
To the soulful tunes sang by a passionate Cuban singer, the dishes start to arrive to the table. Fresh octopus, burrata on pasta, duck confit croquettes, mushroom and truffle arancini, tacos and plates of sushi are ours for the taking. Portions are huge but being in the fresh air creates a healthy appetite so nothing is wasted.
Time for more bubbly, or perhaps an Italian mix drink whose colour matches the sun before mains are served. A selection of prime cuts is grilled to perfection, along with salmon and the real deal in British fish and chips, and a healthy dollop of tartare sauce.
A huge catch of seafood arrives too, not to mention the most delightful bowl of saffron risotto; and porcini mushroom rigatoni arabiata. The colours are astounding and the addition of edible flowers adds even more panache, making it a dream come true for foodie instagrammers.
There’s time for a respite prior to desserts and we make use of it with a paddle in the warm Arabian Gulf sea – and as far as we know, there are not many brunches in the capital where you can do that.
The soulful beats continue and it’s a perfect day that is about to get even better.
The desserts are served and are presented as if they are from a page of a well known cookbook. They look delightful, too good to eat, but that didn’t stop us from tucking in.
A section of chocolate fudge cupcakes vies for attention with the most glorious looking cheesecake, churros, exotic fruits and dulce de leche. But they needn’t have worried, as all have our undivided attention in equal measure.
With desserts savoured, one could easily saunter home, but why would you when you can while away the late afternoon swaying to soulful tunes on the beach. Or if you prefer, head to the pool and take a dip.
Whatever you choose, we just know that this beachside brunch is one for making delicious memories.
