Cycling fans of Abu Dhabi listen up as we have some excellent news that will really put your wheels in motion.
The Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) has announced the UAE Tour will be hitting the road once again on 20 February 2022.
Ratified by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the UAE Tour is the only UCI World Tour race that takes place from the Middle East.
Organised in collaboration with RCS Sport, the 2022 UCI World Tour racing calendar will begin and finish in Abu Dhabi.
The 2022 Abu Dhabi race will cross mountains, coastal and desert roads as well as city streets over seven stages in the emirate.
Next year’s race will be the fourth time Abu Dhabi has hosted a leg of the UCI World Tour with Primoz Roglic, Simon Yates and two-time Tour de France-winner Tadej Pogacar taking the title in 2019, 2020 and 2021 respectively.
Speaking on the announcement His Excellency Aref Hamad Al Awani, Secretary-General of ADSC, said: “After a challenging but successful 2021 UAE Tour amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, we are now looking ahead to host the 2022 UCI World Tour opener.”
“The 2022 edition coincides with Expo 2020 Dubai and we are really excited to be part of this global event. Obviously, we are looking for a bigger event and play a bigger role to portray the UAE as a global venue.”
