Trips and events to return for schools in Abu Dhabi

The changes will take place in term two.

School trips and extra-curricular events will be brought back under relaxed measures in term two it has been revealed.

The news comes after the Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee approved the blue schools initiative today (5 October) which could also see reduced social distancing requirements, relaxed masked and increased classroom and school transport capacity.

Schools will be tiered based on student vaccination rates with higher vaccinated educational institutions able to gradually ease restrictions.

The four tiers are colour-coded with blue representing 85 per cent and above of the student body being vaccinated with orange for schools that have had less than 50 per cent of pupils jabbed.

Schools will be designated yellow if 50 to 60 per cent of the student population has been vaccinated and green will be used for 65 to 84 per cent.

Authorities reiterated that free vaccines are available to children across various vaccination centres across the emirate and that Pfizer-BioNTech is available for children over the age of 12 and Sinopharm to kids over the age of three.
