Flights between UAE and UK are to be suspended until further notice
The UAE has been added to the UK’s travel ban list, according to news on the BBC news portal.
It was reported that the move is “aimed at stopping the spread of the South African variant”.
The ban comes into force from 5pm GST (1pm GMT) on Friday, 29 January.
Etihad Airways, the UAE’s national flag carriers, tweeted that all Etihad Airways flights to the UK are suspended until further notice in line with guidance from the UK government.

Dubai Airport have also tweeted a similar notice.
As announced by the UK government, direct flights between UAE & UK have been temporarily suspended. The suspension comes into effect for all flights that were scheduled to arrive in the UK after 13:00 UK time on Friday 29 January. British, Irish and third country nationals with residence rights in the UK will be allowed to enter but must self-isolate for 10 days at home.
The UK’s travel ban on flights to the country has been steadily growing due to COVID-19.
The new ruling comes 10 days after the UK’s Transport Secretary Grant Shapps announced on 8 January that passengers arriving by plane, ferry and train to the UK from anywhere in the world will need to self-isolate for 10 days.
