Calling all aesthetes and those of certain vintage, it’s time to get misty-eyed as Manarat Al Saadiyat takes you back to the 1990s with its new exhibition, Zemanna.
Taking you on a journey of the decade’s impact on art and society in the UAE, the multiroom exhibition marks the beginning of major change in the country’s population when it was characterised by the presence of street vendors and colourful neo-lit dukkan signs.
Curated by Munira Al Sayegh with Dirwaza Curatorial Lab, the exhibit opens next Monday (17 Janaury) and showcase nine interactive installations that attempt to answer the questions: What led to the 1990s and what did the 1990s lead to?
Running until Monday 13 June, participating artists will include Afra Al Dhaheri; Aisha Al Ahmadi; Alaa Edris; Fadel Al Mheiri; Ghada Al Sayegh and Maytha Al Shamsi; Jumairy; Mays Albaik; Rawdha Al Ketbi; and Sree.
And when you’re finished travelling back in time, head to Larte for a pizza and a cool house beverage.
