Abu Dhabi’s ban on scooters with seats has come into effect

Scooters can also be only operated in a bike lane or roads with a 20km/h speed limit.

The ban on scooters with seats in Abu Dhabi has now come into effect.

Publishing to its Instagram account, the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) outlined the different modes of transport that were permitted and prohibited and that the ban on seated scooters is designed to keep pedestrians and other riders safe on the footpath and roads.

Bicycles and electronic bicycles are still allowed as well as regular scooters operated by foot and electronic scooters.

The ITC also revealed that you can only ride your scooter in the bike lane or on roads with speed limits no higher than 20 kilometres per hour.

Scooter and bicycle riders must also wear protective gear such as helmets and reflective clothing at night.

The new measures were announced on 28 March which also included All bicycles and electric bikes must be equipped with a white headlight and a red taillight as well as possessing a handlebar-mounted sound device and brakes.
